When
his futurist comedy, "Beer Wars," has its
first showing this month at the Rialto Theater in
Raleigh, Kyle Niehoff of Wake Forest will see the
culmination of an eight-year dream.
"If I had
known then how long it would take me and the work I
would have to put into it, I would never have tackled
this project by myself," Niehoff said. "It was
huge, and I am very glad I did it."
And he did just
about everything. He wrote the screenplay, then starred
in it, directed it, produced it, shot it, edited it,
produced some of the graphics and wrapped up all the
post work. The feature-length DV movie was shot in his
attic, backyard, friends' garages and basements.
The co-star, Rob
"Spider" Davis, proved to spread his web far
and wide, moving to Atlanta and then to Massachusetts,
moves Niehoff called "challenging. He had to fly in
so we could complete the scenes with him. I even went up
to Mass one time. Spid is the best. He really is a great
friend."
The moving will
show at the Rialto at Five Points on Thursday, Feb. 24,
at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $5 and can be purchased at the
door.
Niehoff was his own
critic. "Bad acting, bad lighting, but it makes us
laugh."
Niehoff has his own
freelance production company and works for production
house in Wake Forest. He has also written
and designed children's books, greeting cards and toy
ideas.
